Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna Sings the National Anthem Before Seahawks–Bears

Joey Belladonna stepped onto the field in a No. 12 Seattle Seahawks jersey on Monday, November 2, 2026. The Anthrax singer performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Seattle’s Lumen Field before the Seahawks hosted the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.

The jersey was a nod to Seattle’s fans, known as the 12s. Belladonna stood on the field with a handheld microphone while players lined the sidelines. The Seahawks later released their own recording of the performance.

Belladonna took the anthem at a measured pace. He gave the opening lines room to breathe, then let his vibrato come through on the longer notes. With the voice exposed, the rise toward the closing line became the focus of the performance.

Metal listeners know that sound from Anthrax. Belladonna’s melodic delivery cuts through the fast guitars on records such as Among the Living, including “Indians.” At Lumen Field, the same sustained tone had to carry a melody on its own.

The venue was familiar to him. In November 2022, Belladonna sang the anthem at Lumen Field before the Seahawks played the Las Vegas Raiders. He posted footage of that earlier visit on his own YouTube channel.

Monday’s performance was part of the pregame ceremony. Chicago went on to win the Week 8 matchup 34–17. Anthrax shared the clip below from the pregame performance.

The two performances in Seattle offer a chance to hear Belladonna approach the same melody four years apart. The 2022 footage also shows how familiar he already was with the stadium and its pregame routine.

For the voice in its usual setting, “Indians” puts Belladonna back in front of Anthrax. The guitars and drums give him a much denser sound to sing through, and the sustained phrases are still easy to pick out.
